                 whistles        
          after  
                      midnight

                             moon, play hide and
seek from lake to lake like
steel-gray rocks stuffed in
your nephew’s pocket–

slivers of darkness escape
and skip
across the water.

ripples only
if you see them. echoes only
if you hear.
